Heritage Walk: Lighthouses in Cape D'Aguilar x St Stephen's College

Put into service on 16 April 1875, Cape D'Aguilar Lighthouse on the southeast shore of Hong Kong Island is the oldest surviving lighthouse in Hong Kong. Cape D'Aguilar Lighthouse is named after Major-General Sir George Charles D'Aguilar (1784–1855), who served as Lieutenant Governor of Hong Kong and Commander of the British Forces in Hong Kong from 1843 to 1848.

St Stephen's College was opened in 1903, with six boarders and one day pupil, as a Christian boys' school. Apart from the School House which is a declared monuments, the College has other historic buildings which are graded as Grade 1 to 3 historic buildings by the Antiquities and Monuments Office.

The Trust is very grateful to Dr POON Sun-wah and Mr CHAN Kwok-pui from the St. Stephen's College for serving as the docents of a heritage walk on 28 April 2018 to led around 30 members of the public to visit the respective Cape D'Aguilar Lighthouse and St. Stephen's College, as well as to share the stories behind the two historic buildings.
