Brief Description of the Project

A 5-day international conference on archaeology in Southeast Asia was organised by the University Museum and Art Gallery of the University of Hong Kong from 9 to 13 March 1995 with a sponsorship jointly provided by the Trust and the Land Development Corporation. The conference, which was fully supported by the Antiquities and Monuments Office, aimed to promote interest in archaeology and to provide a forum for leading archaeologists to discuss the latest findings in archaeological research in South China and Southeast Asia. This was the first international conference of its kind ever held in Hong Kong and was a great success with a total of 41 scholars including 31 overseas archaeologists from Australia, Canada, China, England, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and USA presented papers in the conference. All these papers were published under the title: Archaeology in Southeast Asia.
