Hybrid Plenary on "Revitalisation and Conservation of Historical Heritage" and Cultural Visit to Pokfulam Village at Asia Cultural Co-operation Forum 2022


A Hybrid Plenary on "Revitalisation and Conservation of Historical Heritage" and a Cultural Visit to Pokfulam Village were organised on 15 December 2022 by Lord Wilson Heritage Trust (Trust) in concert with the Trust's 30th Anniversary and also as part of the core programmes of the Asia Cultural Co-operation Forum (ACCF) 2022. The events were very well-received by the ACCF delegations as well as guests of our local communities.

Hybrid Plenary on “Revitalisation and Conservation of Historical Heritage”

The Hybrid Plenary on “Revitalisation and Conservation of Historical Heritage” was held in the morning of 15 December 2022 at the Béthanie Theatre, a Grade 2 Historic Building in Hong Kong. It was launched in an unprecedented hybrid mode and we are honoured to receive overseas delegations (including cultural ministers and senior officials from Brunei Darussalam, Korea, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand) and local guests at site and online.

The Trust is honoured to have Mr LAU Chun, Raistlin, J.P., Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to deliver a welcoming speech at the plenary; and Professor TING Sun-pao, Joseph, B.B.S., Adjunct Professor and Senior Research Fellow of History Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong to be as the moderator at the plenary.  Distinguished speakers, including Professor Puay-peng HO, J.P., UNESCO Chair on Architectural Heritage Conservation and Management in Asia; Ms Cordelia CHUNG, Chairperson of Maryknoll Convent School Foundation Limited; Ms Doris KWAN, Deputy Supervisor of Maryknoll Convent School Secondary Section; Professor LEE Chack-fan, G.B.S., J.P., Chairman of the Management Board of Jao Tsung-I Academy; Mrs Kiki KO-LI, Chief Operating Officer of Jao Tsung-I Academy; and Professor Heather HUGHES, Professor of Cultural Heritage Studies of University of Lincoln shared their experience and stories on heritage conservation and celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the Trust together.

This plenary with four presentations addresses from different perspectives the development of Hong Kong's diverse and valuable heritage assets which continue to exert great impact on Hong Kong people’s everyday life.  While the presentation of Professor LEE Chack-fan, G.B.S., J.P. showed the growth of traditional Chinese culture in Hong Kong, which is best known as a meeting place where East meets West, Professor Puay-peng HO, J.P., Ms Cordelia CHUNG and Ms Doris KWAN’s presentations highlighted the achievements of different conservation projects of architectural heritage.  Professor Heather HUGHES’ presentation provideed concluding remarks by overviewing the key issues facing cultural heritage organisations amidst the so-called “culture wars”.

Cultural Visit to Pokfulam Village

With the docent service from Pokfulam Village Cultural Landscape Conservation Limited, one of the grantees of the Trust, we organised the Cultural Visit to Pokfulam Village in the afternoon of 15 December 2022.

Pokfulam Village has a history dating back for more than 200 years from now. During the cultural visit, villagers of Pokfulam Village guided overseas delegations / representatives of participating countries (including Brunei Darussalam, Iran, Japan, Laos, Malaysia and Maldives) and guests of our local communities to visit Pokfulam Farm, a Grade 1 Historic Building in Hong Kong which was revitalised from the Old Dairy Farm Senior Staff Quarters; the main street of Pokfulam Village; The Silo, a Grade 2 Historic Building in Hong Kong; and Choi Yuen Tei, a Pokfulam Village community garden to learn about the history and tradition of the village, the conservation and revitalisation of the sites, and an Intangible Cultural Heritage item: “Mid-Autumn Festival – The Pok Fu Lam Fire Dragon Dance”.
